FAQ'S

What are the benefits of an irrigation system installed by Real Irrigation?

A well-designed, properly installed and appropriately maintained irrigation system can be the most efficient way to keep your lawns and gardens healthy and looking great.

Saves time: Don't spend another minute of your valuable time holding a hose in your garden.  An irrigation system can be automated to time the watering to happen anytime of the day or night, when you are in bed, at work, or doing something else.

Saves water: A lot of water is wasted when watering our gardens.

        -   Forgetting to turn the tap off.

        -   Leaking hoses.

        -   Water run-off on pathways, driveways and roads.

        -   Watering at the wrong time of day, meaning the sun evaporates more water than the plants drink.

        -   Over watering plants and possibly damaging plants.

A well-designed, properly installed irrigation system will save water by automatically turning your irrigation system on and off.

Saves plants: Plants need a steady, well-regulated schedule of nutrition.  An irrigation system can be designed to provide your lawns and plants with a carefully timed, precisely measured amount of water, exactly when they need it.

Convenience: With an automatic irrigation system, all the hard work is done for you.

Full landscape coverage: Sick of your hose not reaching all areas of your garden, or do you constantly forget to water one particular pot plant? Not any more an irrigation system can be specifically designed to water all gardens, lawns, pot plants and shrubs with the appropriate form of irrigation.

Adding value to your home: An automatic irrigation system will always be an added highlight and advantage for anyone interested in your home.

Should I get an automatic or manual irrigation system?

There are three ways you can control how your irrigation system turns on:

Manual: You will turn the system on by turning on your garden tap when you want to start watering and turn it off at the garden tap when you feel enough watering has been done.

Tap Timer: Generally battery operated, tap timers are attached to your garden tap and turn on and off as pre set by you.

Automatic: Automatic irrigation systems are the most expensive option, but they are the most common. Controlled by an electronic controller your irrigation system will be more efficient by:

        -  turning on at a preset time, usually early morning, as this is generally the best time to water your garden.

        -  automatically watering different areas of your garden at different times per day, depending on landscape design and plant type different areas

may need to be watered at a particular time to reduce plant disease or sun damage.

        -  water particular sections for different lengths for time to best suit lawn and plant type.

        -  watering your garden even when you are not home or away, meaning you don’t need to rely on neighbours or friends and family to ensure your

garden survives whilst you are away.

        -  only watering your garden during the allowed times outlined by water restrictions in your local area.

        -  can be connected to a rain sensor (FREE with every automatic watering system installed by Real Irrigation) which will automatically shut off the

system if there has been an increased rainfall and your lawns and gardens done need any more water.

Why can there a big variation in the price from different irrigation contractors?

Sometimes when you get a few prices from different irrigation contractors to compare before making your decision you may notice a variation in prices.  This is generally because you get what you pay for.  Low bidders may not be licensed or insured and may often use cost-cutting techniques that can jeopardise your lawn and gardens and shorten the life of your system.

Watch out for these commonly used, undesirable short-cuts:

Not including a backflow preventer: This is required by most Australian water authorities to prevent contamination of your drinking water.

Installing sprinklers too far apart: This makes it impossible for certain areas to receive enough water and can cause brown spots during the hot summer months.

Mixing sprinklers with different application rates on the same line: This causes one area to be over watered in order to sufficiently water another.

Using inferior products: Whilst it may be cheaper in the short term, due to break downs you will need regular repairs or in some cases a complete overhaul, costing you more in the long run.

Not using special watertight connectors and a protective valve box: These components are necessary to safeguard the electrical elements, guard against short circuits and prevent corrosion.

Not automating your system: When automated, an irrigation system will turn on and off automatically. If not automated, your system will need to be turned on and off manually by you. Whilst this is a perfectly acceptable option for some it is best to check your quotation and confirm what option you have been quoted for.
